Like any other city, Balikpapan has special tradition at Ramadan. Ngabuburit (doing everything to wait adzan maghrib), culinary which is only exist in this month, and others. As I wrote in my previous story, Balikpapan is a home of nomads, so it has it's own culture. Here are some unique traditions of Balikpapan in ramadhan.

Traditional food

The traditional foods at Ramadan are more affected by banjar tradition, which is synonymous with sweet food. one of the food that appears at ramadhan is Sari Muka. I don’t know why this food is called sari muka. This food is so yummy, ingredients of Sari muka  are rice glutinous and flour soft (like in kue lapis) in the stratified but more thick than kue lapis.

Sholat Tarawih

Sholat tarawih in Balikpapan is similar as tarawih in java. We can find masjid which doing sholat 11 rokaat and 23 rokaat. But there is a difference in jamaah who answered to bilal sholawat praying, they answered in a very unique way, And there is imam undangan in some mosque or musholla. Imam undangan is imam from other mosque or other place to be invited to priest in tarawih in musholla. and when there is imam from other place, there should be kultum/lecture after isya’ before tarawih. It’s the coolest tradition in this city. In Balikpapan you can find people who was jogging more often than usual in ramadhan. I don’t know why they are jogging while fasting, though we usually can drink beverage after running. And the characteristic of Balikpapan's road that rising like a hill is making it cooler.
